Hayaati Njuki challenges the perceptions of traditional beauty pageants

On December 3rd, 2016, law student Hayaati Njuki, 21 of Tottenham will be participating in the annual Miss Uganda UK beauty pageant as the first ever hijabi contestant.

Miss Njuki’s participation is monumental, as a Muslim woman. All too often, contestants in beauty pageants are regarded for their physical beauty alone. Miss Njuki’s modest appearance is a striking reminder that women brave enough to grace the pageant stage are worthy of praise for their intelligence and wit, as well.

“The support I’ve had so far has been amazing. Girls, hijabi and non-hijabi wearers have told me that what I’m doing is powerful and I’m really challenging people’s ideals of beauty,” said Hayaati,

She is a poignant example of the changing tides of society, and appreciates your support

With the Miss Uganda UK event quickly approaching, please consider voting for Hayaati Njuki and supporting her groundbreaking endeavour to be not only the first ever hijabi contestant, but perhaps the first hijabi Miss Uganda UK.

Hayaati is being sponsored by Exposure. She is a poignant example of the changing tides of society, and appreciates your support.

I am so proud of you Hayati, your a pioneer for change, thank you for paving a way for many young ladies who for a long time have been afraid to break the norms that society has created.
