Being Silent Isn’t Being Strong

Few people realise the extent of the problem of suicide – the biggest killer of young men in England and Wales. Part of the issue is that some young men don’t feel able to express themselves… until it’s too late. Why?

Big Lottery Awards for All funded Exposure to highlight male suicide and help promote support services. Working with young people, we created two eight-page supplements that appeared in Exposure magazine, complemented by two short films aimed at encouraging more young men to talk about their problems as a key way of combating suicide.

Projects

To have Exposure cover a subject as stigmatised and uncomfortable as young male suicide was an amazing thing on their part, and we were thrilled with the resultant CALM/Exposure collaborative suicide supplement. Exposure provides a vital service for young people and one that deserves to continue to grow in every way possible, but are also very cool with tonnes of credibility. A brilliant balancing act!
