Celebrating Autism awareness and acceptance: through my eyes

April 2, 2026

Max Ferreira shares the world through his eyes as a young man with autism

April is World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Acceptance Month 2026. It’s a good time to think about what it’s like to be autistic, what challenges we face, and how we see things differently. Awareness helps people understand us. Acceptance helps us feel part of the world.

I’ve created a lot of work with Exposure including short stories, film and book reviews, as well as reflections that show what it’s like for me living with autism. My autism helps me notice details, spot patterns, and come up with creative ideas. It shapes the way I write and the things I want to share.

I’m a creative author and have published a series of stories about my experiences on Kindle. Recently my piece was reproduced in National Autistic Society’s magazine, Your Autism. You can see my full portfolio with Exposure here. My work shares challenges, humour, strength and insight from my life on the spectrum. I hope it gives you a small window into how I see the world and maybe you’ll see some of your own experience too.

Now working in retail, Max Ferreira is a creative author. A regular at Exposure, his autism helps him develop special creative ideas. He has published a series of stories about his experiences with autism available on Kindle.
