Jamie Aldridge reveals how youth-led education boosts confidence, creativity and digital skills
I’ve been involved with Exposure for over 10 years. I had no idea, at the start, how much it would improve my confidence, skills, and perspective on the world. Exposure isn’t just a communications charity, it’s an education that goes beyond the classroom. It’s about life, equality, and using your voice to make a difference.
Exposure gives me a platform to express myself, collaborate and connect with others in a way I hadn’t experienced before. From day one, I felt the freedom and safety to explore what mattered to me, including my identity, mental health and my love of art, audio and film.
Technology and AI are transforming how stories are told and how audiences are reached. Exposure not only gives access to digital tools, but also teaches how they can be used thoughtfully, purposefully and in ways that enhance real-world teamwork and collaboration. These ideas stay with me.
One of the most transformative aspects of Exposure is how it combines creativity and technology. I learnt how to use digital tools to tell stories, highlight important issues, and make meaningful change, while also gaining guidance on using tech responsibly, presenting work professionally, and navigating online information effectively.
A young person I’ve seen benefit is Finn J, 21. He says: “Exposure teaches me how to share my ideas and represent myself online, not just post stuff. It gives me the skills and confidence to spot what’s real online and use tech smartly.” Mentoring at Exposure gave me the opportunity to support and collaborate with other young people, which strengthened my sense of purpose.

With the new portfolio feature on Exposure’s website, young people can showcase their creativity while building skills for education and work. It’s a space to craft, publish, and discuss digital work with a team and community.
As we celebrate International Day of Education on 24 January 2026, Exposure shows how youth-led learning, guided by caring adults and mentors, sparks creativity, builds confidence and connects digital skills to meaningful projects that make a real impact in our communities.
A key strength of Exposure is how it blends creativity and technology, empowering us to tackle big topics, explore ideas, and contribute to the world with boldness, authenticity, and purpose. It enables young people to collaborate, tell stories, and use digital tools thoughtfully, while building the ethical awareness, critical thinking, and teamwork skills needed to use AI and technology effectively, guiding it rather than being guided by it.
