Poem: Heaven Is When I’m With You

Basmah Mohamed expresses her happiness from a deeper connection
I look at you and I’m in awe
You paint vibrant colours on my soul and ignite a spark in my heart from the warmth you radiate
You’re a golden goddess walking this earth so effortlessly with a halo gleaming above your head
You shine with prosperity and wisdom.
They said, “paint her eyes and you’ll paint a galaxy”
And now galaxies glisten in your eyes as you smile and become my guide
Through the many gardens that we stumble upon
Though no garden can bloom a flower as extravagant as you.
The endless nights at your side
Holding me captive with your laugh that kills me every time
I’m back alive because your presence is a blessing sent from the heavens.
Who knew
Heaven is when I’m with you.
